Things To Bring With Your Portable Oxygen Tank When Traveling

By Estelle Larsen

There are many people who are suffering from conditions that affects their intake of air. The fortunate thing is that there are oxygen tanks that can supply air on their lungs for them to survive. These days, more and more people are having the freedom to roam around and do other things unlike before that they are only confined to one place because of the oxygen tanks.

But now, through some major innovations moving around is now possible. By using a portable oxygen tank, those who are dependent to the tank can go to other places. This can be a hassle at first, especially if the person is not used to carrying something around at all times. But since it is essential for breathing, it will become a part of your body somehow.

When choosing a device to supply air, you first need to determine whether you need the continuous flow or the pulse flow. Continuous flow of oxygen means that the device will continue to supply the lungs with oxygen regardless if you are inhaling or not. The pulse flow on the other hand, will only supply air when it is triggered by inhalation.

Devices with which have the pulse flow mechanism have built in conserver. These will regulate the usage of oxygen so that the supply would last up to five times more. But people who are still using a tank when they are sleeping are advice to used the continuous type because when you are asleep, breathing tends to be shallow and you might not get the right amount of oxygen in your system.

Those who have a portable tank can travel. But you have to be sure first if you are allowed. In some cases, their conditions are too serious for their physicians to allow them to travel. There are also things that you must not do even if you do have a portable tank

Right before having the decision to travel, you need to ask permission from your doctor first. This is so that he can give you advice on what to prepare as well. Aside from your travel documents, you need to also bring some other documents that are essential for a hassle free travel.

One of the most important paper that you have to carry with you is a documentation for your portable tank. You can ask for a letter from your tank provider. It can also be the sales invoice when you purchased it.

Make a huge space for your documents as you will be bringing many. Do not forget to bring your personal Ids and contact numbers of people you can call during emergencies or when you need advice, like your doctor and your device provider. And a treatment plan in case there is a flare up during the travel.

You also need to make room for your medications. Make sure that you will be bringing extra doses. This will be preventive measure in case your return got delayed. And you also have to secure a statement from your physician if you are traveling by plane. This would allow you to use your equipment while you are inside the plane.
