Basic Volleyball Positions Everyone Should Know About

By Olive Pate

There are various sports that are created for people's entertainment these days. Athletic sports should be a good activity to get into because it allows people to have an active and healthy lifestyle. This is also a way for people to learn more about teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. It would be a good idea to indulge in a sport.

You can go for ball sports. There are a number of ball sports that should be a good option for you to have these days. A perfect example of that would be Oakville volleyball. This is technically a ball game where every player will have to connect every attack and not let the ball touch the ground on your court.

When you plan to participate in the said sport, then the first thing you have to do is know the rules and positions for it. There are various positions that must be filled to have a decent team, after all. These positions help with making the team stronger. Here are the basic positions everyone should know about then.

First, you have the position for outside hitter. The said position has players hitting from their strong corner. For the players with a dominant right side, then they basically have a strong corner at their front left. If they are left-handed, then they have a strong corner at the front right corner of their court.

Middle blocker. This is a position for defense. When the opponents are attacking, especially with spikes, the team needs the middle blocker to block these hits. To make the said blocks more effective, it is a common practice to have the middle blockers be the ones who are the tallest in the team.

Setters. This is a position for those who love setting the plays for the game. They are those players who deliver the ball or toss it up in the air for a more effective attack from the spikers. The setters will have to assist the spikers with the attacks, ensuring that they hit it at their best and scoring off of it.

Spikers. They are the ones who will be attacking the opponent. They can do a simple hit, synchronized attack, or just a full power spike just to get a score off of their opponents. For the spikers, they aim to hit the ball with full power so that it can go through the opponent's block and score a point.

Libero is a position that is mostly filled by short players, although it does not necessarily mean that only short players can play as libero. The libero position is filled by those players who are good at receives. They have the responsibility of connecting one attack to another, preventing the ball from hitting their home court.

Another position would be the pinch server. It is a specialized position that does not necessarily require only a single player. Any player on the team can be a pinch server. The main responsibility of the pinch server is to replace the member on the court who is currently serving, aiming to turn the situation around with a serve point.
